A contemporary villa with a limited color palette.

Updated: Mar 2

This newly built villa began as a blank canvas. Clean architecture. Generous light. A sense of openness that asked for clarity rather than decoration.

The owner had a very precise vision: Pale floors. Light walls. An almost weightless envelope. Within that calm shell, darker wooden accents would add depth and character. A pale floor runs throughout the space, merging almost seamlessly with the soft-toned walls. Daylight reflects freely, amplifying the architecture and allowing the garden views to become part of the interior experience. This restrained base allows every darker element introduced into the space to carry meaning.

Dark Wood as Structure

Against the pale backdrop, the darker wooden volumes become architectural anchors. In the kitchen, deep wengé-toned cabinetry forms a strong vertical plane. Integrated appliances disappear into this dark surface, creating a calm and cohesive composition.

Black accents, from lighting fixtures to details in the kitchen, reinforce this language. They draw lines through the interior, connecting the different zones without visual clutter.

The Raised Living Area

One of the defining gestures in the villa is the raised sitting area near the fireplace. Here, the material palette subtly shifts. The floor of the platform is executed in a lighter wood, warmer in tone than the main pale flooring. This change creates a natural transition. The lighter wood adds intimacy to the seating area, almost like a stage defined by texture rather than walls.

A Study in Controlled Contrast

What defines this project is restraint. A limited palette. Clear decisions. Pale floors and walls form the base and the dark wood provides depth and structure. Lighter wood in the raised seating area introduces warmth and tactility.

The result is a contemporary villa that feels balanced and timeless.
