A Character-Filled Apartment Transformation in the Historic Heart of Málaga

Updated: Mar 2

In the historic centre of Málaga, we had the pleasure of transforming this stunning apartment of nearly 100 m², featuring soaring ceilings, beautiful wooden windows, and original interior doors full of character.

From the start, the owners were clear about one thing: the authentic structure of the apartment had to be preserved. The recently renovated kitchen would remain untouched, but the bathroom needed an update and the entire apartment required a thoughtful interior design concept to truly bring the space to life.

Our challenge? Respect the soul of the property while elevating it into a warm, refined, and contemporary home.

Bathroom – From Outdated to Elegant

The existing bathroom had a large horizontal mirror spanning the entire wall. While generous in size, it lacked atmosphere. The lighting was harsh and uninviting, and the finishing around the mirror felt poorly executed and visually heavy.

Rather than simply replacing elements, we reimagined the space.

We removed the oversized mirror and replaced it with two modern oval mirrors, each topped with a subtle spotlight. This instantly created softness, symmetry, and a boutique-hotel feel. The oval shapes break the rigidity of the room and add a refined design statement, while the improved lighting enhances both functionality and ambiance.

The bathroom also contained both a bidet and a toilet. Since the apartment already includes a separate guest toilet, we chose to remove them. This allowed us to open up the space, improve the layout, and create a cleaner, more comfortable bathroom environment.

The result is a bathroom that feels lighter, more elegant, and intentionally designed, not just renovated.

The bathroom design transformation showcases a shift from a traditional style with an antique mirror and limited space to a modern aesthetic featuring a sleek mirror and an open layout achieved by removing the toilet and bidet.

Furniture & Styling – Bringing Warmth to Height and Light

The previous owners had furnished the apartment almost entirely in white. While white can be timeless, in this case it amplified the already tall white walls, making the space feel somewhat stark and impersonal.

With ceilings this high, there is already an abundance of light and architectural presence. Instead of adding more white, we introduced warmth and depth through carefully selected materials and tones.

We incorporated:

  • Natural wood elements for texture and authenticity

  • Soft beige tones to add warmth and calm

  • A subtle green hue that beautifully complements the existing window frames

This layered color palette creates balance. The space now feels inviting, grounded, and harmonious, without competing with the original architectural features.

Design Philosophy – Enhancing, Not Overpowering

Projects like this are about understanding proportion, light, and character. High ceilings, historic details, and natural light are incredible assets — but they need the right material choices and color balance to truly shine.

Our approach is always to enhance what is already strong, correct what feels unbalanced, and create interiors that feel both intentional and effortless.
